Paper Canister With Telescoping Lid: RFQ Guide

A telescoping paper lid is only one part of the fit system. To compare suppliers, describe the finished product, usable canister space, cylindrical wall and lid movement together instead of sending a reference image with an undefined diameter.

The core rule

Measure the product envelope before choosing the canister diameter

Measure the finished product at its widest and tallest packed points, including caps, labels and protrusions. Define loading orientation and usable clearance before setting the body diameter. The approved fit, lid movement and packed-product retention remain sampling decisions.

Six fields for a comparable paper-canister RFQ

Packed product

Record maximum finished diameter, full height, weight, orientation and any cap, label or accessory that changes the envelope.

Usable dimensions

State whether each dimension is internal or external and define top, side and base clearance instead of one nominal canister size.

Body construction

Describe the cylindrical wall direction, rim, base, wrap paper and any liner or insert request that needs project review.

Telescoping lid

Define lid depth, shoulder overlap, opening direction, acceptable movement and closing feel for sample review.

Artwork and finish

Provide wrap artwork status, seam position, colour reference and exact locations for foil, embossing, UV or lamination.

Packing and sample

State quantity direction, destination, inner/master packing and measurable appearance, fit and handling checks.

Lid language

Replace “premium tight fit” with reviewable criteria

State lid depth, overlap, where the hand grips, the opening direction and what movement is acceptable. A deeper lid can change appearance and handling, but it does not automatically prove protection. Compression, drop, vibration, barrier or distribution requirements need separately defined materials, tests and acceptance criteria.

Common specification gaps

  • Using the product's nominal capacity instead of its maximum finished outside diameter
  • Mixing internal and external canister measurements in one brief
  • Calling the lid fit ‘tight’ without an opening direction or sample acceptance criterion
  • Naming a paper material without defining wall, wrap and base construction
  • Requesting foil or embossing without marking the target area and wrap seam
  • Treating a visual concept as proof of barrier, food-contact or transport performance
